What's the *strangest* date you've had?

calendar dates

Dates…can be daunting but exciting, hopeful or hopeless. Despite it all, we go through the motions of getting a date, going on a date…and perhaps hoping there’ll be more dates in the future which may lead to somewhere.

Majority of us have a date story or two to tell. Whether good or bad, boring or exciting…there usually is an aspect of it that stuck in the memory lobe – perhaps to serve as a warning bell for the next potential *strange* date.

I’ve had my fair share of never again (here), and some lovely ones (here)

As for Elise, my ever gregarious friend who on most occasions than not attract the *strange* ones have a few stories to share.

Her first account was one of her dates with a top management consultant (whom she has been on a few dates prior). The evening started with drinks at a trendy bar downtown, where conversation and drinks flowed. Fast-forward to post-dinner, a nite-cap at his apartment…which ended-up in bed, and a strange request just before they fell asleep. He (rather adamantly): Please…one of our body parts must be touching. I need to feel you – no, he didn’t mean it in a romantic sort of way. Elise said she’s never been that freaked-out before, as much as with the request but also at how adamant, and woeful he looked…

On another date, her date – after one too many drinks – fell asleep on her…literally!

These stories are probably enough to put-off a novice dater, however, you’ve got to live a little…experience it, and then you’ll be able to weed-out the *strange* ones. Any “dates of wisdom” to share?

Looking forward to the times I actually have some dates, then I'll be able to tell you what a strange one was like.

Hey Lara M

One of the most uncomfortable (yet funny) dates I had many years ago - was when I a girl actually asked me if I'd go out with her.

Sure, I thought.

Nice girl, intelligent, good looking, well spoken - the whole box and dice it would seem and her suggestion of going to a party and then dancing appealed too.

So, having picked her up from her place - she handed me a slip of paper with the address of where the party was being held.

Well to cut a long story short - the 'party' was actually a fund raiser at a Synagogue - while the concept of dancing the night away to the wee small hours was replaced by a bush dance of sorts with 'moi '- being the only gentile among a group of approx 100 others (mostly over the age of 50) of the Jewish faith.

Hardly the night of clubbing, laughter and good times - this then 20-year-old was expecting.

Dinner was interesting enough - but when stares and whispers eventually evolved into question time about so and so's new boyfriend (this was our first date) then I realised that this was one was going to be chalked up to experience.

Needless to say . . . one bitten twice shy.

Who knows Iwhat waits I thought to myself at the time.

Next I might get asked to accompany her to a wedding - only to find out when I got there that it was my own

Ah the trials and tribulations of youth

Cheers

MNG

Katyzzz, I look forward to your insights then

What a *scary* first date, MNG! It would've been interesting to see what the 2nd date could've been .. but I guess that was too risky!

I went on one once where I was repeatedly attacked by a large moth, and ended up crying. I have a mortal fear of moths. I felt like Carrie in Sex and the City, when she goes on a simudate, and the guy is attacked by a pigeon.

Anyway, this guy tried to be gallant and catch the vicious creature, but he kept missing it... and well, if he can't catch a moth, how's he going to go protecting me from spiders and cockroaches and stuff?

Lol.

No, I didn't really stop seeing him because of that. He couldn't catch the moth AND he had no sense of humour. Terrible.

Hi Lara

hhhhmmm some interesting dates mentioned here! I suppose the only bizarre one I have really had was going on a blind date to a dance. The day before the dance said guy rang me up to ask which of two shirts I thought he should wear (I didn`t realise we were girlfriends?)

Then we got to the dance and after half an hour of meeting he had found a rose and was kneeling on the dancefloor with the rose between his teeth serenading me. No. NO. NOOOO! Out the door buster!

Interesting! I have had bad dates, but no strange ones come to mind.

I went on a tv date once - filmed for a terrible show called 'street mate'. The chick put on a fake norwegian accent until half way through, and then revealerd she was from Adelaide. I didn't know what to say. TYhen she lied in the follow upo and said she hadn't seen me again - when we had met up at a bar! She made me look like a damned fool, so no more dating shows for me . . .

That moth story is hilarous. It would make a great scene in a movie. I would have caught that damn moth, or at least lured it away with a torch

Andy, you should have been my chaperone on that date, protecting me from all advances... from presumptuous winged creatures. At least you would have shown some creativity, ie. the torch concept. Nice.

Now, must get back to writing my new screenplay - Michaelie and the Killer Moth.

hehhee...love reading about everyone else's strange dates. As for me, I really can't recall any strange dates on my part but I'm pretty sure this one guy thought the date with me was strange. See, I was a mere young 'un and I didn't know he was asking me out on a date when he asked me to go bowling. So I took my whole family with me (all 6 of us) and the poor guy ended up squeezing us all into a taxi, splurging on the bowling and food for me and my family to make an impression. Needless to say, he never asked me out again.

Michaelie...I agree, no sense of humour is more terrible than not being able to catch the moth!

A blind date, and he asked what he should wear?! Glad u escaped that one early on, Ash!

Good to see you, What's Your Story? Thanks for popping by

Gee, Andy 2 -- sounds like she was a serial lier... How freaky...

Hmmm...how were they strange, Holly -- the person or the date? I think there are too many *weirdos* out there...

Awww...Dean. I don't think she held it against u...?

<LOL> Aimz...that hilarious! I think we can *learn* so much from each other's dating gems/perils
