At what price $$$

At the mention of weddings, eyes light up - no, not only the would-be bride...but also the florist, caterer, dressmaker and the rest of the cast of a typical wedding. Weddings can costs from just hundreds of dollars to millions! It doesn’t have to cost that much, but it usually does.

Apparently, weddings are every girl’s (and sometimes boy's) fantasy, and most try to make it as picture-perfect, fairytale-like as much as possible...all topped with gem-crusted bells and whistles.

I really don’t see the point of a huge splash-out and decking it all up with expensive flowers. Also, those bouffant chair-covers and expensive table covers/linen – where it is more likely than not to be spotted if not covered with wine and gravy by the end of the night! Oh…oh, how about those skyscraper tiered cakes?

If you're a celebrity, chances are you'll spend between US$250,000 a la Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban to US $3.1 million Liza Minelli and David Gest style. Which of these 20 celebrity style weddings would you like to have? Check it out here

Do weddings really have to be an ostentatious event? Am I just not getting it, or is it supposed to be the fantasy event of a lifetime...and worth all cost, time and angst?

How much is too much? What is/was your style and cost?

Hi Lara

The best wedding I ever went to was when my friend got married on a look out under a natural tree arch overlooking a beautiful scene of treetops and mountains in the background. The reception was at a marquee on an open field overlooking a watering hole with zebra and giraffe drinking as the sun was setting behind them and tiny bouquets of wild flowers lay on each table. The food was simple and the price tag was tiny yet the day was memorable for everyone included.

I hate the big, showy, over-the-top, done-to-death weddings. I'm not much into traditional weddings at all, but those are the worst. Why don't people use their imagination, and a bit of ingenuity, instead of the must-have wedding manufacturer and a year's wages?

What an ugly cake,

But it's her DAY and it may well be the last one she'll ever have, all nonsense really, but SIGH!

Hmmmm. I'm not looking for marriage yet, but I'm figuring my wife will demand something ludicrous.

Ash...that sounds like a truly beautiful wedding! Tastefully simple, *cosy*...and memorable too. I can just picture it...lovely! It's the kind of down-to-earth weddings that I like.

I agree with you, Michaelie. I've never been one to follow conventions nor traditions either...!

Oh, C/Krystal...I though the little figurines were quite cute...unlike the usual

Good to see ya, Dean! I think the wedding should be one where you both will be happy with...whatever u decide. I know and have heard of people going into wedding debt! Ridiculous...

Yikes! I'm sorry to go against the norm, but you can definitely classify my wedding as traditional - both sets of parents are traditional after all. For a while I did mull over the amount spent on the wedding (which was the average amount for a wedding) and thought I could have spent that on something else but looking back at how everything turned out, I thought it was well worth it. And if I do get to spend the rest of my life with my current hubby, then that's all I can ask for.

Techno...u can pop-by here again when you come of age...

I'm sure it was a wonderful wedding, and well worth it, Aimzster. So long as both of u agreed on it and had the means to pull it through
