…an array of perspectives and random thoughts on love...loveS and life...

Love speaks to us in different ways

Love is a many splendour thing...

According to dictionary.com, there are more than 20 definitions of love -- all depending on the context that the word 'love' is used in. Love can be an emotion... a feeling... an action; a noun... a verb... a verb used with an object... a verb used without an object... a verb phrase... or even an idiom.

Short of getting into the technicalities of what love can be, I think love is basically the tenderness, the fondness... the strong emotion that we have for another. This love is then expressed through various forms of expressions and actions... go figure It also sometimes has such a manifestation that we lose ourselves in it and do the most unthought of!

Love to me is...
...mum waking up at 6am to make us breakfast
...dog giving me a lick even having just received a scolding

...dog running up to greet me after a long day away from home

...not being afraid to wake up (with him) with *bed hair* and drool marks
...being comfortable in silence
...sharing gummi bears at the movies
...him getting out of bed on a COLD winter's morning to switch on the heater in the very cold bathroom
...sharing that first fart...!

Love as such comes to us in all shapes and sizes. It comes to us through all forms. It is as you can see a powerful tool and should be used at discretion... but must be transmitted freely and in huge amounts...

So... what is love to you?

My beating heart.....

"Love to a man is a thing apart, 'tis woman's whole existence."

Old quote, I guess things haven't changed much.

Nice post Lara.

Love.....is the kindness and care we share with each other, a form of Agape Love. I knew it was love (true love) when I saw tears rolling down his face when he expressed his deepest darkest moment to me...I had teared and so did my heart...

Cheerz to Love!

Love is all around us.....

Interesting post Lara!

Love seems to be a popular subject lately, and one that's so hard to define simply for the fact that it does have so many forms and fashions. I love my kids one way, my animals another, my extended family yet another, love my friends in their own way.... and then, there's that confusing realm of romantic love.

I find that people often confuse romantic love with other things (myself included)... we mistake lust for love, need for love, possession for love, obsession for love... but rarely do we find that all to rare "soul mate" kind of love where we can love openly, honestly, truly, deeply, and above all, unconditionally.

I think we all have ideas of what that one true love is... we have our "lists" of qualifications... and then when we find someone that has one or two of those qualifications, we chuck the rest of the list and cling to that person for dear life, thinking they must be "the one". I've made that mistake myself... and am just now realizing that there's another list that should accompany the qualifications, and that's the "cost" list....

What it is we're willing to give, where we're willing to bend, what we're willing to take on or let go of, and how far we're willing to go.

Loved the bit here about sharing the first fart...

Loving my kids? No problem. Loving my animals? Piece of cake. Loving my family? Well, it stretches me sometimes, but I get there. Loving my friends? Sure... but when it comes to romantic love, I sure do have a lot to learn.

Great post.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Sorry I had to quote it from the scriptures.

Love to me is something I can learn for a life time. It doesn't stop at one end, and it takes a long time to master it, or probably can never able to master it in my life time (yet I still try my best to improve in this issue).

Recently when I saw this scripture. I feel quite a pinch. Have we forgotten that there are people around us?

All the "I want... I want... I am... I'm gonna..." does not show the tendency of love.

Could everyone in this world learn the basics from the scripture I quoted? Perhaps. We just have to hope for the best.

Truly insightful thoughts, Wendi – I couldn’t agree more.

Loving animals comes sooooo easily/naturally to me too. Perhaps it’s because they give it back unconditionally and without judgement. Growing up we had lots of animals around us, I really miss that…especially having a dog.

Romantic love is confusing; sometimes made more confusing depending on one’s state of mind even perhaps then made complicated by one’s feeling of wanting to be with someone. I believe in that ‘soul mate’ kind of love…but sometimes wonder if that is being idealistic…

Thanks for your thoughts.

That’s a lovely piece from the scriptures, Jessicca -- thanks.
I think u have helped to remind us what love is about…and for us to be a little more selfless.
