“Beer Goggles” Theory proven

Many of us have heard of the “beer goggles” theory – that unattractive people look more attractive (to us) after a few drinks. Most dismiss it as an urban myth, but just as many claim that it’s true. This decade(s)-old debate can now be concluded…

Researchers from the Universities of St Andrews and Glasgow have discovered that men and women who have consumed a moderate amount of alcohol find the faces of members of the opposite sex 25% more attractive than their sober counterparts.

The study suggests that alcohol elevated activity in the part of the brain used to determine attractiveness. So, a person that you are usually not drawn to will look like that dream lover you had in mind.

To keep your dignity and sanity in check, I suggest, only go drinking with good friends –preferably with a couple of teetotalers in the mix— who can knock some sense into you as you teeter over to that *attractive* person.

I think my version of this is that when I have been drinking, members of the opposite sex seem funnier, wittier and more intelligent, and therefore more attractive, rather than just better looking.

I could end up going home with Russell Crowe one night if I'm not careful.

Love the mural and this is just the point I made when I wrote my post on the Orble party, those keen enough will have to look for it, and I'm not even a drinker, just pretended to be as part of the plot. And I didn't need a University study to tell me. What'll they do in the name of research next?

My Turn

When i was single and spent many hours in bars. I would go in sober have a look around think nothing appealing. Then a few drinks later I would look at a guy I have seen earlier and thought. Actually you are kind of cute from this angle if I squint my eyes a bit.

Yes their jokes get funnier but hey so do mine.

I don't subscribe to the beer goggle theory or at least it doesn't work for me. While alcohol does seem to make you do silly things - hehe - making someone look 'better' than they actually are isn't one of them -- or am I just lucky I've never picked up a 'Jessica Alba' only to find out it really was a 'Naomi Robson' instead?
