FAST-tracking the Dating Process
September 20th 2007 04:03
Who really has the time to date these days? Besides trying to maintain a 9-5 job, going to the gym, spending time in queues, blogging(!!), and amongst other mundane activities – do people really have time to date?
Dating or rather courtship was once revered and considered as a means of finding a life-partner (usually for economic and family reasons). It had less to do with this
Internet Dating – the people behind the websites have a shortlist for you. You can ‘sort and search’ based on numerous factors from simple things like age, hair colour, etc to preference for pets/children to political view! Hopefully there aren’t too many
Speed dating – probably the best way to meet people if you’re just counting heads. You attend a *date* with an even number of males and females – apparently between 10-15 people of each gender. You swap *dates* every few minutes – usually between 6-10minutes. There’s more to it and it varies with the different speed dating agencies, but essentially, at the end of the *date*, each person decides if they’ll like a real date with anyone they met. An adult version of ‘musical chairs’ if you must, and a good way of *collecting* friends.
No excuse for not having a date now… Happy Dating!
Have you/anyone you know tried any of these time-saving dating approaches? What was it like?
p/s…perhaps that’s why we tick the boxes…to save time!

Love the first heart in particular. A good pic and I'm anyone's, if you don't have time to greet how are you ever going to meet LONG TIME.
I'm ready for the speed dating, put me down with the slow movers and groovers.
Cut some of the gym, cut some of the blogging, cut some of the other things you do, keep Saturday night and Sunday free for HIM. Lower your expectations, chat up those around you, chat to the dog owners while you are walking, best that you like dogs.
How am I doing?
It's just a matter of stats, really, and the stats ain't good.
Am I improving or getting worse.
Love katyzzz....sorry but I just won't do.

Fortunately in my last travel I met someone who is actualy from Sydney. *phew* about time I stop the long distance trends!
Yes - no excuse for having no time to date - it's not time anyone lacks - it's motivation!

How about mail order brides?
Wow, I haven't been on Orble for a while - I've been wrapped up in exams. It's good to read from you
To answer your question, I haven't. A friend of mine is hooked on those dating websites though.

I know of one friend who joined a dating site because her job is not conducive to meeting eligible men (she's a 'freelance' midwife!)...and she travels a lot.
So far...no good but...she feels this is her last resort. She wants to have a baby before she's 40 and feels that this is the 'honest' way of finding a like minded partner. (because she just asks upfront!)
I'm not convinced this is the answer but I'm not walking in her shoes.
I have a feeling she'll meet her 'one' when she least expects it.
I just read in Sunday's paper (supplement) that the gym is the place to meet potential partners...because if you're using the gym as intended, you should be at your worst...and therefore stripped of articfice!
AND...I do know a couple that met in a queue! 7 years later, happily married!
Hope you're well Lara...

Flashes of memories
I haven`t tried or know anyone who has tried any of these... but you hear of love stories from across the world so they must work for some.
I can`t remember where I heard it but I heard the other day of a couple meeting at a traffic light! So you just never know where love will strike.

I like your spirit, katyzzz
That's a nice way to meet people, Amy -- good free accommodation all around the world, pretty cool
Louie...what a fab deal! I detest house-work so I can see LOTS of pros in that relationship!
It's about the heart, mind and will, huh David.
Hi Kylie...I've two friends who've successfully dated using internet dating - one's happily married for more than 5 years now, and the other is on the verge of it...so it can work, but not without a teeny share of the oddities! (and frustrations...) Hats off to those who dare to try all these unconventional avenues...

a SCARYan idea, Dean. ...but worth a try?! Good to see u...Dusk...I think your friend is right in pursuing that path. I think because it's *always* upfront, that's why it can work. That's the same with my friend too -- people who get on those sites usually have the same objective and are *honest*...
I like your 'meeting in the queue story'
Anon...yes, I know a couple of *recycled* successes
