Eating certain foods...*sexual*?

Eating is a necessity but also a pleasure – increasingly a social activity the world over. It is also a social connector, a dining experience that can evoke memories – whether of the person/people you were with, or the smells of mum’s cookies baking on Saturday afternoon.
So, when did it (eating) become *sexual*?

Yesterday (Sunday) was a hot day in Sydney. A few of us decided to spend the day traipsing around Manly. After a leisurely lunch by the wharf, we decided to get an ice-cream before catching the ferry back to the city.
As I took my first lick, Elise turned to me and asked if I’ve ever thought of eating an ice-cream cone as sexual. Whaaaat? Where did that come from?
She explained that there was something sexual about the pink of the tongue against the soft moulds of the ice-cream. I looked at her (and the others), and made another distinctive lick…

Though I was rather unabashed by Elise’s comment (then), I can’t help but think about it now. The more I thought about it, the more I think that having an ice-cream cone will never be the same again.
So that got me thinking about other foods that may arouse similar reactions/comments. (With the help of Joe, Elise and Sonia) We’ve managed to uncover part of the enigma around eating certain foods in public:
> ice-cream cones and bananas – ‘cos they can look rather phallic!
> ice-cubes – though not particularly phallic it exudes sexual connotations
> strawberries – ‘cos it’s red and juicy – go figure!

I am very concious of eating certain types of food in public because of something that was said to me ages ago when I was eating a banana.

Food is used to describe the anatomy yes?... peaches have long been used to describe not only complexion but gluteus maximum perfection.
Strawberries are a fruity metaphor for full red lips, which in turn are a reference to...um...other parts of the female body...
Figs too are a representation of female anatomy.
As for ice-cream...it's a phallicy...!
Gherkins??...it's all about the shape isn't it?
I saw this amazing burlesque cabaret/show at the Sydney Opera Drama Theatre last year...it was all about the sensuality of food...it was gorgeous....Feasting on Flesh or something like that.
Best food sex scene in a film?...'9 1/2 Weeks'...

I think it works the other way too. There are some things you see someone eating and its a bit of a turnoff.
Like a chop. Nothing sexy about savaging a chop. But i guess it depends on how you do it. Haha.

What funny timing, I was just thinking about this today, on the way home in a traffic jam.. devouring a kiwi fruit (from boredom).. I noticed a few blokes in the truck next to me gauking.. oh pardon, excuse moi... we all laughed...(oops I was miles away)...
I think one of the sexiest things being eaten (by male or female) ... is a strawberry dipped in chocolate... don't know why, just do..

I would eat just about anything in public but one thing that makes me cringe first before eating it would be a peach. I just remember I was made fun of in high school by a couple of guys when I started devouring the peach I had for lunch. Since then, I've never been able to erase the memory.

Hmmm...yah, bananas seem to be an issue isn't it. I actually don't like 'em...I think it's the smell :- & BUT I don't mind banana bread...
