What's the appeal?

Is it the glamorous New York City lifestyle? …the fashion parade by the four ladies? …the escapism from real life? How you relate to the scenarios/dramas/high-lows the ladies have?
Whatever it might be, it seems that ‘Sex and the City’ – or more commonly known by fans (and critics alike) as SATC – has turned into pop culture. *Around the world, SATC 2 tops the box office for the second weekend in a row – likely making critics and non-fans cringe.
Granted the movies aren’t as good as the series, fans will flood the cinemas for the opportunity to see their favourite ladies. Why? Just to get a chance to relive the good times they had ninety-four episodes and a movie before.
Women (and some men) relate to some of the episodes. Some of us have had our Mr Big-and-Aidan moments, some of us the Charlotte-baby/motherhood moment and a few of us the Mr Big-Natasha-Carrie phase.
We see a part of our lives replayed or played out – doesn’t matter where in the world you are, the scenarios are real (most of the time), and you can relate to it. There’s probably a little bit of ourselves in each character, if not an entire character – or it's someone we know. That’s probably why it appeals, because they get to play it/the character all out and we probably can’t because we’ve a certain identity to maintain or expectations to manage. So, we relive it through those *daring* ladies of SATC.
The series, which ran for six years with a total of ninety-four episodes has a strong following – we don't seem to tire of it. Foxtel has ongoing reruns of it every day and night on two channels, and it’s also on a free-to-air channel. Not only that, Time Magazine listed SATC in its 2007 ‘100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME’, and a Google search of ‘sex and the city fan sites’ showed (**approximately) 14,100,000 results.
SATC has non-definable, enigmatic appeal. Don’t try to dissect it, over-analyse it or throw harsh comments at it. If you don’t get it, you won’t get it. It’s not you, it’s just not into you.
I think SATC with its notes of humor, quirks and realism has appeal…and whether the critics like it or not, it is here to stay.
What do you like about SATC?

I think SATC was the perfect addition to our culture to lead us into the new millenium. It was fresh and funny and gritty with the right blend of fantasy and relatable reality.
As you know I think the movies are the exact opposite.
