The *three little words*...
October 4th 2007 22:55
No not, ‘did you fart?’…BUT the words ‘I love you’.
Who says it first? How prepared should the person saying it be?
(Before you say it) Do you have to be reasonably confident that those words will be returned? If it isn’t returned, it would be one awkward moment… It’ll be the pregnant pause without being pregnant!
Even if *those three little words* were returned – was there a pause or was it instantly returned? Could that pause (or not) determine how much your partner loves you…feels about you?
Would it be easier to just send an ‘I love you’ note with flowers? Maybe a note with champagne – to either have a happy toast after or to drown your sorrows in.
Does it matter who says it first? When and How do you say it?
If you said it, and it wasn’t returned…what should you do?
If it was said to you, and you didn’t feel the same…what should you say...how should you react?

I think that so long as it is a genuine 'ILY' it matters not who speaks it first, because whatever the r4eaction, it still stands if you truly DO love them...

Yeah, I think it matters who says it first, and to how each partner defines "love" in relation to the..er.. relationship.

Mum's Word
I said it first to Mr M, luckily he said it back. In fact I think we were only dating for about 3 weeks when I asked if he thought he would marry me. Livin' life on the edge.

I loOOve those lips too, Techno...
Happy to know it worked out well for you, Louie! I guess if it's *blurted* to the *wrong* person, it can come out and turn-out all wrong...eeeks...
Hmmm...I know what u mean, katyzzz...but sometimes can be natural and fun?!
So true, Kylie! I think in that situation, one would then quickly try to make light of it or turn it into a joke
I think that so long as it is a genuine 'ILY' it matters not who speaks it first, because whatever the r4eaction, it still stands if you truly DO love them...
...well said, Sandeye...if it's with the right person... ...and in that instance, it'll come out right and natural.
I think and believe it still means and stands for a lot, Ahmed. Changing circumstances, personalities, etc probably erodes relationships. That's why communicating with each other (I feel) is so important. Regardless of the divorce rates, I'm still optimistic...
What a lovely story, Mrs M. Thanks for sharing! Another *blurt* that has a happy ending...loving it!

So...doesn't matter who says it first I guess...but more importantly, it had better be the right person. Good to see everyone, and thanks heaps for your comments.

Michaelie - I know what you mean by not sure what to reply. I usually just either keep quiet and smile, or say 'ok' and change the subject.
