But love is all about giving, isn't it?

A friend of mine once told me, “I’ll only give 80% of my heart and soul to my husband. The remaining 20% - it’s all mine to keep and protect myself”. “Protect yourself? Against what?” I asked. “So that in case anything should happen to me, I can be assured that I won’t be shattered to pieces. I need to be strong for both myself and my daughter, you know”, she replied.
So, how much should women give to our partners? Where were the days when love was as simple as ‘when you’ve met the right man, you’ll give your all to him? After all, you’re his for the rest of your life’.
I guess life got more complicated than that from then on, making even love, the simplest concept known to man, comparable to Year 12 Trigonometry! But, it’s undeniable that there’s always that danger of getting hurt by the person we love in every relationship, and yes, women tend to take separation and heartbreaks harder than men (why do you think that young girls, hopelessly in love are overdosing themselves on Paracetamol after getting dumped by useless slimeball jerks?!).
Take myself, as an example. For someone who’s in a loving, stable relationship with a man, who totally loves, adores and worships the ground I walk on, there are times when I feel that I might not be giving my all to my wonderful partner (with whom I’m totally in love with, by the way). Maybe it’s just me being cautious due to my not-so-pleasant histories with men, or maybe it’s just me trying to be smart and looking out for myself. But, do I love him less? Hell, NO…..so, hands off…thank you very much! 
So, it’s totally OK to keep a part of yourself (and sanity) to….well, yourself! It does not mean that you love dear hubby less, nor is it a crime, and it certainly won’t do any harm to your intimate life! I’d like to call this the rise of the new age women; we’re STRONG, we’re SMART and we’ll SURVIVE anything and everything that life throws back at us!
Till next time, take care & spread the love around!
