Food makes the relationship...

strawberry berries fruit

"Food makes the world go round” so they say, but I’ve been thinking (more and more that)…food makes relationships. Having a meal with someone can be an intimate experience. It’s a time where you’re in fairly close proximity with the other, and essentially all conversation will be focused on just you and your dining partner.

Food makes the relationship because...
...if you do cook with your partner – you learn how to co-operate with each other, you get to have a conversation as you prep…and you get to really know what it’s like when s/he is under pressure. ...and...all that steam and heat can potentially be the foreplay...before the actual one...

...all the breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks become a part of the relationship. If you are in a relationship, chances are there will be many such meals around. Memories of good meals at restaurants, cafés or even on holidays are ingrained.

...it becomes a date/social activity to try new or different cuisines or restaurants/cafes.

Let’s face it, most of us love food – be it eating it, trying new cuisines or trying new restaurants/ cafes…we are probably closet food lovers (if you haven't already come out...)...

Louie...neither can I! It'll be painful...

<LOL> So u are a McMan, alt_ed. I will admit that I do occasionally need a fix of McD fries Hey...if u pop the McD's, chocolate and croissants into a picnic basket -- u are all set for a (romantic) picnic date. Not a lost cause at all...

Well, it brought Lady and the Tramp together...

I agree Lara, food is the basis of so many of our social activities. That and booze. Lol.

I love food. I love everything about it. From walking around markets and deli's to preparing food and eating it. I just love it.

But I'm actually seeing a guy, for whom food is simply fuel. Something he shoves in his mouth once a day for energy (dont even get me started on his eating once a day either!).

However, in the time we've been seeing each other, he's actually gone out to restaurants and each time we go out he'll try different dishes (he only ever used to eat chicken parma) and is actually enjoying the experience of food (this is a man who won't order steak at a restaurant because if it's not cookoed well, steak can be a bit tough, and he really hates having to chew for too long.........I kid you not - it's a good thing we've been friends for a long time or I wouldn't have lasted 2 mins with him). It's been a change for him. But it definitely plays a part in our relationship.

"Lady and the Tramp" was sweet -- thanks for the memory trip, Michaelie

I agree with the booze! Cheers

Hmmm...I know what you're saying, Kylie. I love visiting the markets and delis in each city/town I visit -- it's so interesting to see the local produce, as well as see what the locals eat.

That's great news about your relationship, and that he nows enjoy lovely meals with you...especially when there are such great restaurants in Melbourne

Yes, I see it as a big part of a relationship too -- especially when you have long chats over a good meal...and booze - Michaelie -
